Let’s Make Halloween Accessible for Every Child!

With Halloween fast approaching, I am incredibly proud to announce that RE/MAX Colonial Pacific Realty is officially a Champion of the Treat Accessibly movement and the Exclusive Lawn Sign Producing Partner for our local communities.

For those who might not be familiar, Treat Accessibly is a grassroots initiative designed to make trick-or-treating inclusive and safe for the more than 400,000 children in Canada who identify with having a disability. Traditional trick-or-treating often involves navigating dark walkways, steep front porch stairs, and loud noises, which can create significant physical or sensory barriers for many kids.

The Treat Accessibly program offers a simple, powerful solution that any homeowner can participate in. By placing a Treat Accessibly sign on your lawn, you signal to parents in the neighborhood that your home is a safe, easy, and welcoming stop.

How to Make Your Home an Accessible Stop
If you want to help make Surrey, White Rock, and our surrounding neighborhoods the most inclusive places to trick-or-treat this October 31st, it only takes three simple steps:

Display Your Sign: Plant your Treat Accessibly lawn sign a few days before Halloween so parents know your home is a safe stop.

Relocate Your Treat Station: On Halloween night, instead of waiting inside by your front door, set up a lawn chair and your candy bowl at the end of your driveway or inside your open garage. This completely removes the barrier of stairs and uneven pathways, bringing the fun to a flat, paved surface where every child can safely participate.

Keep it Bright and Friendly: Ensure your candy station is well-lit. Please skip the strobe lights, sudden jump-scares, and loud sound effects, which can cause sensory overload for neurodivergent trick-or-treaters.
